Abstract
STRONG LAW SYSTEMS WITHIN NATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR A STRONG SYSTEMS OF LAW FOR THE WORLD. THE TERM, 'LAW SYSTEM' INCLUDES LAW RULES; LAW INSTITUTIONS; SUCH AS COURTS, ARBITRATION, AND OTHER PEACEFUL MECHANISMS OF DISPUTE SETTLEMENT; AND A REASONABLY REGULATED POLICE FORCE. THE MAJOR INTERNATIONAL CONCERN IS TO CHANNEL DECISIONS ON DISAGREEMENTS INTO LEGAL PROCESSES, PROCEDURES, AND INSTITUTIONS, SO THAT THEY MAY BE DECIDED PEACEFULLY RATHER THAN BY THE ARCHAIC METHOD OF DECISION BY FORCE. DECISIONS WHICH VIOLATE HUMAN RIGHTS ARE OPPOSED BY DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL LAW. MOST NATIONS HAVE LAW SYSTEMS WHICH GUARANTEE HUMAN RIGHTS AND COURTS AND POLICE WHO ENFORCE THAT GUARANTEE. EACH COUNTRY IS EXAMINED BRIEFLY WITH REFERENCE TO PRACTICING LAWYERS AND BAR ORGANIZATIONS, REQUIRED LEGAL EDUCATION, COURTS OF JUSTICE, AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM. SOME ENTRIES ALSO CONTAIN HISTORICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF LEGAL INSTITUTIONS. FOOTNOTES, AN APPENDIX, A TABLE OF STATUTES, A BIBLIOGRAPHY, AND AN INDEX OF COUNTRIES AND CONTRIBUTORS ARE INCLUDED. (PRG)
