This issue highlights some of the most recent research that attempts to integrate research and treatment of child sexual abuse victims within conceptual and theoretical formulations.
Abstract
The cumulative effect of child sexual abuse on social institutions and the implications for research that will increase the efforts at prevention, early detection, and effective treatment are also discussed. Individual articles examine two models of the traumatic impact of child sexual abuse -- the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder model and the Four Traumagenic Dynamics model; the incidence and long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse in a clinical sample of adult women; and a comparative analysis of sexually abused and nonabused children. Also reviewed are the effects of a supportive environment to ameliorate the trauma of child sexual abuse, treatment approaches for sexually abused children, and the multifaceted aspects of child sexual abuse. Tables, notes, and references. For individual articles, see NCJ 109564-109570.
