This report highlights the activities of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department during fiscal year 1991-1992.
Abstract
During the reporting period, there was an increase of 3.5 percent in total number of crimes committed in the Las Vegas valley area; the highest rates of increase were in homicides, robberies, and vehicle thefts. The Department implemented the first phase of its automated recordkeeping project. During this phase, the computers that form the groundwork for the Computer Assisted Dispatch system were increased in both number and capability. A third squad of officers was added to the Community Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) three-pronged program, which focuses on enforcement, education, and engineering. The Field Services Line Solution Policing (LSP) teams, which espouse problem-oriented and service-oriented policing, continued their efforts. The Criminal Apprehension Teams (CATS), which work in conjunction with the local FBI office, target fugitives wanted for serious felonies and arrest other felony suspects, both locally and from other jurisdictions. The Department's Crime Prevention Bureau provides proactive programs including Neighborhood Watch, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and other school and public programs.
