THIS PAPER DRAWS COMPARISONS BETWEEN THE GOALS AND OPERATIONS OF THE KU KLUX KLAN AND THE NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT OF SOUTH VIETNAM.
Abstract
BOTH OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS FLOURISHED IN DEMOCRATIC, PLURALISTIC SOCIETIES THAT WERE IN A STATE OF LEADERLESS CONFUSION. BOTH WERE FERTILE FIELDS FOR GUERRILLA ACTIVISTS. THE RESPECTIVE TIMES WERE 1865 AND 1954, AND IN BOTH COUNTRIES THERE HAD BEEN A TRADITION OF FORMING SECRET, ARMED LOCAL GROUPS. NEITHER GOVERNMENT WAS ABLE TO MOUNT AN EFFECTIVE IDEOLOGICAL ALTERNATIVE TO THE INSURGENTS, AND THE INSURGENTS WERE ABLE TO SEVER THEIR RESPECTIVE COUNTRYSIDE FROM THE GOVERNING FORCES....BDS
