This document provides an annual synthesis of key trends in the New South Wales criminal justice system. The trends chosen for analysis are those which are central to criminal justice planning and policy and on which comparable and reliable data can be obtained.
Abstract
The first section presents trends in criminal court processes, focusing on registrations, disposals, delay, and sentencing in the local, district, and Supreme Courts. Trends in the correctional process are examined vis-a-vis prison populations, prison admissions, and community-based corrections. The final section deals with trends in juvenile justice, specifically registrations, disposals, disposals by type of offense, and outcomes. 77 figures and 14 notes
