This CD-ROM presents reports that discuss the role of Florida’s Juvenile Justice Accountability Board (JJAB) and its activities, studies, and other accomplishments during the year ending February 15, 2000, and that described the juvenile justice system as of December 31, 1999.
Abstract
The discussion noted that the Board is a governmental decision making process that recommended policy choices and strategies to prevent juvenile delinquency and facilitated the development of an effective juvenile justice system. It also noted that many of the changes made by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice as it began its reorganization resembled previous JJAB recommendations, including the emphasis on prevention, the new models of community supervision, and the new emphasis on transition and aftercare. The report also presented and explained the JJAB’s recommendations related to management functions, juvenile delinquency prevention, intake, community supervision, residential commitment, and administrative functions. Additional sections of the report summarized JJAB reports issued between February 15, 1999, and February 15, 2000. The Fact Book described the Florida juvenile justice system with respect to its programs, their locations and capacity, and performance measures. The Fact Book also noted that ongoing projects included a study of transfers of juveniles to criminal court.
