Abstract
VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS DESIGNED FOR HANDLING JUVENILES IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA ARE DESCRIBED. POLICE OFFICER ATTITUDES TOWARDS OFFENDING YOUNGSTERS IS DISCUSSED WITH A BRIEF LOOK AT SOME ACTIONS CONSIDERED TO BE DELINQUENT. VARIOUS SITUATIONS INVOLVING YOUTH ENGAGING IN DEVIANT BEHAVIOR ARE OUTLINED AND GUIDELINES FOR ACTION ARE GIVEN. THE SAMPLE SITUATIONS INCLUDE MINORS AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TRUANTS AND WAYWARD CHILDREN, CURFEW, THE QUESTIONING OF JUVENILES, TAKING CUSTODY OF DELINQUENTS, FINGERPRINTING AND PHOTOGRAPHING, AND DEALING WITH JUVENILE GANGS.
