Abstract
THE AUTHOR FIRST REVIEWS THE NATURE, SCOPE, DISTRIBUTION, AND MEASUREMENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. SEVERAL SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY ARE EXAMINED, AND THE POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEFINING AN ACT AS DELINQUENT AND THE LIKLIHOOD OF A JUVENILE BEING CONSIDERED A DELINQUENT IS EXPLORED. SUCH FORMS OF DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR AS JUVENILE STATUS OFFENSES, JUVENILE PROPERTY CRIMES, DRUG ABUSE, AND JUVENILE GANGS ARE THEN DISCUSSED. FINALLY, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE OPERATIONS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE POLICE, JUVENILE COURTS, AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS IN DEALING WITH THE DELINQUENT.
