Abstract
This report presents data on yearly statewide outcome measures for Pennsylvania's juvenile courts for the years 2004 through 2011. All data presented in the report is based on the number of cases closed during each calendar year. The data is presented in three broad areas: community protection, accountability, and competency development. The data shows that for the 8 years covered in the report, the number and percent of juveniles who successfully completed supervision without a new offense varied from 15,353 (86.7 percent) in 2004 to 12,642 (85.1 percent) in 2011, while the number and percent of juveniles under supervision who were charged with a new offense varied from 2,356 (13.3 percent) in 2004 to 2,207 (14.9 percent) in 2011. For juveniles involved with the State's juvenile justice system, an obligation to the victim and the community is also incurred. Data in the report show that the number and percent of juveniles assigned community service varied from 11,256 (63.6 percent) in 2004 to 10,389 (70.0 percent) in 2011; total community service hours completed varied from almost 551,000 in 2004 to just over 502,000 in 2011; and the number and percent of juveniles with a restitution obligation varied from 4,661 (26.3 percent) in 2004 to 3.779 (25.5 percent) in 2011. In addition to community service obligations, juveniles involved in Pennsylvania's juvenile justice system are also responsible for becoming more productive members of the community through the completion of a competency development activity. The report shows that the number and percent of juveniles directed/ordered to participate in a competency development activity while under supervision varied from 13,230 (74.7 percent) in 2004 to 12,212 (82.2 percent) in 2011; and that the number and percent of juveniles who successfully completed the activity varied from 11,646 (88.0 percent) in 2004 to 11,164 (91.4 percent) in 2011. 15 figures
