Intended for use by researchers and others seeking information on law, courts, corrections, or policing in Alaska, this directory presents information about the primary databases maintained by the Alaska justice system and the procedures to use for access to the data.
Abstract
The directory is designed so that researchers can both look up particular agencies and databases they already know and, through a subject index of key words, locate all databases containing information on the specific topic of research. Each database is listed with the agency that houses it. Each agency or organization is also described in terms of its history and purpose to aid researchers in identifying the nature of the organization. The database descriptions include information on the history, purposes, and uses of the data as well as on any special concerns associated with use for research. Information is also given on the type of system, the period for which data are available, the data storage, the reliability of the data set, publications, data previous to the current system, costs and time needed to process specific data requests, the steps involved in obtaining access, the subjects, and the data elements recorded. The information on each database was reviewed by the responsible agency. Index and 1992 update
