This podcast episode of Just Science is a discussion with two guests to discuss the many barriers faced by indigenous communities when it comes to identifying missing and murdered persons.


In this third episode of the Unidentified Human Remains mini season, the Just Science host converses with the founder of Native Search Solutions, Mark Pooley, and Research Public Health Analyst at RTI International, Dustin Driscoll. Both men have professional backgrounds in criminal justice and law enforcement, specifically with missing indigenous persons cases. The podcasters discuss common causes of missing indigenous persons, specific gaps in investigative resources, and the growing community that is working to support indigenous groups. The podcasters also talk about native lands, and the ways in which tribal police departments operate differently than police departments on non-tribal lands; as well as the issues of jurisdiction, public law (PL) 280 states, and other legal issues.
