Abstract
This component of the Strategic Planning Master Notebook developed by the National Juvenile Detention Association (NJDA), Center for Research and Professional Development and funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is a compilation of professional speaker presentations, handouts, and reference and resource material focusing on the development and training of a jurisdictional team approach in the strategic planning within juvenile detention. Topics covered included: (1) defining the detention system; (2) managing risks and risk assessment instruments; (3) identifying and outlining continuum of care options and alternatives to detention; (4) aftercare programming; and (5) the Emerald County simulation activity. Jurisdictional information and materials identified and discussed within the presentations included: Santa Cruz County, Sacramento County, Cook County, Multnomah County, and Emerald County.
