REVIEW OF THE 1963 TOKYO CONVENTION OF OFFENSES AND CERTAIN OTHER ACTS COMMITTED IN AIRCRAFT IN FLIGHT.
Abstract
THIS CONVENTION REGULATES THE RIGHTS OF STATES TO EXERCISE JURISDICTION OVER CRIMES COMMITTED IN AIRCRAFT. IT ALSO GOVERNS THE CONDUCT AND ACTIVITIES OF PEOPLE TRAVELING BY AIR. PROVISIONS PROVIDE FOR UNIFORM RULES CONCERNING JURISDICTION, RIGHTS OF CONTRACTING STATES, RIGHTS OF THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER, THE CREW AND THE PASSENGERS, AND THE PROTECTION OF SUCH PERSONS IF THEY EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS ACCORDING TO THE TERMS OF THE CONVENTION. A COPY OF THE ARTICLES OF THE TOKYO CONVENTION IS INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIX. A LIST OF HIJACKING CASES (BEGINNING WITH THE YEAR 1948) ALSO APPEARS. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS PROVIDED.
