This annual report of the New Mexico Judicial Council discusses the council's proceedings and recommendations to the State legislature, the Governor, and the State supreme court for 1979.
Abstract
The council was established to continuously study the administration and operation of all courts in the State, investigate criticisms and suggestions pertaining to the administration of justice, and recommended desirable changes to the legislature and supreme court. Programs and studies in which the council is involved are changes in jury administration, including jury selection procedures; turnover rates of judicial personnel; redistricting of the State's judicial districts; and the second annual judicial conclave. The conclave addressed the problem of cutting the costs and time taken in litigating civil cases. The report also includes legislative proposals recommended by the council in the areas of filing fees, penalty assessments, and sentencing. The council's membership is listed and its duties and meetings held during the year are noted.
