Abstract
GOALS OF THE PRIVATE SOCIAL AGENCY ARE TO ASSIST OFFENDERS WHO HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BUT NOT INSTITUTIONALIZED, INMATES, AND EXCONVICTS; TO WORK FOR REFORM OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; AND TO INFORM CITIZENS ABOUT CRIME IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE PROVINCIAL OFFICE IN TORONTO HAS THE MAIN RESPONSBILITY FOR COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND REFORM; A PROVINCIAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVINCIAL OPERATION. THE SIXTEEN BRANCHES ARE THE FUNCTIONAL UNITS THROUGHOUT THE PROVINCE; 110 PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS ARE SUPPORTED BY 500 VOLUNTEERS. IN AN ATTEMPT TO MINIMIZE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF PRISON ON OFFENDERS AND TO PROMOTE THEIR INTEGRATION, SERVICES ARE DESIGNED TO MEET THE PARTICULAR NEEDS OF INDIVIDUAL OFFENDERS AND COMMUNITIES. PROGRAMS AVAILABLE PROVINCEWIDE INCLUDE LEGAL AID AND RELEASE ASSISTANCE TO INMATES STILL IN PRISON, ASSISTANCE TO INMATES' FAMILIES IN THE FORM OF FINANCIAL PLANNING AND COUNSELING, DIRECT FINANCIAL AID FOR FOOD AND SHELTER, INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES AND RESUME WRITING, PAROLE SUPERVISION, COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS, AND PRISONER INFORMATION SERVICES LINKING INMATES WITH OUTSIDE INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS. THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT SHOWS AN OPERATING FUND SURPLUS FOR 1979. A SUMMARY OF ACCOUNTING POLICIES AND ADDRESSES OF BRANCH OFFICES ARE SUPPLIED.
