FORMULATION AND ADMINISTRATION, BY THE KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, OF A JOB RELATED PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE TEST FOR PATROL OFFICER APPLICANTS.
Abstract
THE JOB RELATED EVENTS IN THE TEST WERE BASED ON A ONE YEAR SURVEY OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES PERFORMED BY PATROL OFFICERS. A TRIAL RUN OF THESE EVENTS WAS CONDUCTED AT THE RECRUIT ACADEMY IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS. THE COMPLETE TEST, WHICH WAS THEN ADMINISTERED TO PATROL APPLICANTS, CONSISTED OF FOUR JOB RELATED EVENTS - SIX FOOT FENCE SURMOUNT, BODY DRAG, QUARTER MILE RUN, STRETCHER CARRY - AND FOUR CALISTHENIC EVENTS - PULL UPS, SQUAT THRUSTS, SIT-UPS, AND STANDING BROAD JUMP. THE REPORT DETAILS THE PERFORMANCE RESULTS OF THE 168 MALES AND 33 FEMALES TESTED, AND PROVIDES SUGGESTED CHANGES TO THE TEST REQUIREMENTS.
