OCCUPATIONAL DATA ON PERSONS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THERAPY AT A COMMUNITY DRUG TREATMENT CENTER IN RHODE ISLAND SHOWS LESS THAN HALF EMPLOYED IN TREATMENT PROGRAMS.
Abstract
DATA ON PRESENT OCCUPATIONS OF MARATHON HOUSE GRADUATES SHOW THAT UNDER HALF ARE EMPLOYED IN DRUG RELATED WORK. WHEREAS A MAJORITY OF EARLY GRADUATES FOUND THEIR FIRST JOBS AT MARATHON HOUSE, ONLY A MINORITY OF RECENT GRADUATES DID SO. EXAMINING JOB CHANGES, A DEFINITE TREND IS SEEN FOR GRADUATES WHO BEGIN WORK IN MARATHON HOUSE TO SHIFT TO NON-DRUG RELATED WORK - ESPECIALLY AMONG EARLIER GRADUATES. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT CRITICISM OF DRUG PROGRAMS THAT THEY ONLY PREPARE THEIR GRADUATES TO SURVIVE WITHIN DRUG PROGRAMS IS NOT TRUE FOR MARATHON HOUSE. INCLUDED ARE THE RESULTING STUDY STATISTICS, AND A DIAGRAM INDICATING CHANGES IN OCCUPATION SINCE GRADUATION FOR ALL MARATHON HOUSE GRADUATES.
