This report presents the survey design and data for Florida's statewide job and task analysis for entry level correctional officers, conducted as a step towards improving the recruitment, selection, management, evaluation, promotion, and training of correctional officers.
Abstract
Begun in September 1982, the study randomly surveyed 3,367 correctional officers from 103 correctional institutions, agencies, and facilities at the municipal, county, and State levels. A total of 2,606 usable survey booklets were returned (77.4-percent response). The survey solicited information on each officer's background, job tasks, equipment used, forms and reports completed in the course of job tasks, and the officer's comments on how the content and administration of the survey might be improved. This survey report details the content of the survey booklet. It also recommends that a joint task force of representatives from appropriate police and corrections agencies be formed to reconcile the corrections officer job and task analysis with one conducted earlier for police officers. The task force objective would be to establish a framework for common selection, training, and certification procedures. Appended data and 25 references.
