The aim of this study was to examine the extent that clinical psychologist across Scotland engaged in child protection as part of their routine clinical work.
Abstract
Most clinical psychologists are involved in child protection and see the key advantages as: increased protection of children; provision of psychological expertise and evidence-based practice. Identified barriers to this work were difficulties due to multiagency work and limited time and resources. Most participants rated themselves as at least 'medium' on confidence, motivation, interest, skills and experience in relation to child protection, with those working in the child specialty having significantly higher ratings.
