CHEMICAL CHANGES IN THE FILAMENTS OF MOTOR VEHICLE HEADLAMPS AFTER SIMULATED COLLISION ARE STUDIED TO AID IN THE RECONSTRUCTION OF EVENTS LEADING UP TO WEST GERMAN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.
Abstract
FILAMENTS OF THE HIGH AND LOW BEAMS OF 12 VOLT LAMPS WERE EXAMINED AFTER VARYING INTERVALS BETWEEN THE SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAMS AND THE BREAKING OF THE GLASS. INVESTIGATED WERE CONDITIONS WHERE VOLTAGE WAS LOST AND WHERE IT WAS NOT LOST. A CHEMICAL TEST ON PORTIONS OF THE FILAMENT IS DESCRIBED IN WHICH A RESULTING COLOR PATTERN INDICATES THE TIME INTERVAL BETWEEN SWITCHING AND IMPACT. TABLES ARE PROVIDED SHOWING THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATIONS. --IN GERMAN
