This paper presents a collection of articles addressing the gap in the literature that exists regarding the role of context and motivation in women's use of violence in their intimate relationships and treatment implications for this population.
Abstract
The literature on female offenders of intimate partner violence (IPV) continues to stress the importance of assessing the context and motivation of women's use of violence and the need to adapt interventions to meet the needs of these women. This special issue is the second of a two-part issue that critically examines the prevalence of female offenders of IPV and addresses the gaps in current research. The six articles contained in this issue provide updated research on the context and motivation of women's use of violence in intimate relationships and present examples of current treatment strategies for this population.
