This brochure describes the Inmate Roster Classification System, through which the California Department of Corrections (DOC) records each inmate's work classification score, custody level, and work/privilege group.
Abstract
The Inmate Roster Classification System is one component of the Distributed Data Processing System, an integrated information sharing system for DOC institutions that includes inmate housing, classification, assignments, and trust accounting. Inmates are classified within the first two weeks after arrival at an institution. A correctional counselor calculates each inmate's classification score based upon the information in the inmate's case file, while the custody level is determined by a combination of factors: the classification score, classification overrides, and administrative determinants. Other information entered into the computerized system includes medical/psychiatric status, previous escape history, and other case-related variables. The information entered into the Inmate Roster Classification System is used to facilitate transactions within the Inmate Job Assignment System.
