Abstract
Each unit contains learning objectives, important terms, and an array of multiple choice and essay questions. Chapters in the first unit consider corrections and the criminal justice system, the correctional setting, the history and competing aims of corrections, and sentencing. The second unit contains chapters on jails, prison facilities and populations, inmate life and prisoner rights, prison programs and management, and women in prison. The third unit focuses on community-based corrections, probation, parole, juvenile law and offenders, and treatment for juvenile offenders. The final unit covers selected issues such as imprisonment rates, prison and jail privatization, and capital punishment. Tables, figures, and photographs
