This study aimed to examine and compare the patterns of delinquency exhibited by organized gangs and spontaneously formed groups of juveniles in Philadelphia.
Abstract
The data, collected from the Philadelphia Police Department Gang Control Unit, are also used to analyze the careers of gang and group offenders, discuss difference in age of onset of delinquency between gang and group offenders, describe characteristics or positional coordinates of gang and group victims, and investigate variables that reflect some aspects of community response to gang and group delinquency. The chapters deal specifically with subculture symbols and referents, gang and group events, gang and group offenders, 16-year old age cohorts, the extent of gang delinquency, the internecine and delinquent group subculture, and theories of internecine delinquency. 84 tables, 90 references, and 1 appendix
