Abstract
TERRORISM IS A STRATEGY OF TERROR-VIOLENCE WHICH RELIES ON PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT TO ATTAIN POLITICAL OBJECTIVES. INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS STATES RESORT TO SUCH MEANS TO ATTAIN THEIR POLITICAL GOALS. ONE OBJECTIVE OF INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM AND POLITICAL CRIMES IS TO SORT OUT THE MEANINGS OF THE WORD 'TERRORISM' AS TO DIFFERENT CONFLICTS AND OBJECTS. THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THIS BOOK COVERS THE CAUSES OF TERRORISM AND ITS APPLICATION. TOPICS IN THE FIRST SECTION ON PERSPECTIVES ON THE ORIGINS AND CAUSES OF TERRORISM INCLUDE SOME SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF TERROR-VIOLENCE IN A COLONIAL SETTING, AND A PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE ON A REBELLION. SUBJECTS COVERED UNDER WARS OF NATIONAL LIBERATION INCLUDE A SURVEY OF INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW IN NONINTERNATIONAL ARMED CONFLICTS, AND TERRORISM AND WARS OF LIBERATION: AN ISRAELI PERSPECTIVE OF THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT. OTHER TOPICS INCLUDE HIJACKING AND KIDNAPPING. A CHAPTER ON JURISDICTION AND EXTRADITION STRESSES THE NEED FOR STRONGER COOPERATION BETWEEN STATES. THE CONCLUDING CHAPTER EXAMINES ALTERNATIVE MEANS FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL CONTROLS AND OUTLINES PROPOSED PLANS. THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS VOLUME CAME PRIMARILY FROM PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM SPONSORED BY THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED CRIMINAL SCIENCES. (SNI ABSTRACT)
