Abstract
IN JULY 1973 A CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, PRESENTING RECENT RESEARCH DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING WHICH HAVE PARTICULAR APPLICATION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES. THE CONFERENCE WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION AND EXCHANGE OF IDEAS, STIMULATE THE INDIVIDUAL TO CONSIDER THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF HIS WORK, PROVIDE A CENTER FOR THE CATALOGING OF STATE-OF-THE-ART INFORMATION WITH PERMISSION FOR ITS DISSEMINATION, AND PROVIDE A BASIS FOR LONG-RANGE SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN USE OF AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGY. ACOUSTIC SOURCE LOCATION, METAL AND WEAPONS DETECTION, DATA TRANSMISSION SECURITY, DETECTION OF EAVESDROPPING DEVICES, COMPUTER AIDED POLICE OPERATIONS, NIGHT VISION EQUIPMENT, AND AUTOMATED FINGERPRINT PROCESSING ARE AMONG THE SPECIFIC ITEMS DISCUSSED. THIS COMPILATION OF WORKS WILL SERVE AS A VALUABLE GUIDE TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN ELECTRONIC AIDS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. (SNI ABSTRACT)
