BASED ON THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE ROLES OF THERAPIST AND CONSULTANT IN TREATMENT PROGRAMS OF SEX OFFENDERS, THE AUTHORS DISCUSS SEVERAL IMPORTANT ISSUES IN ESTABLISHING PROGRAMS FOR THE INSTITUTIONALIZED SEX OFFENDER.
Abstract
THE BASIC GOALS AND PROCESSES OF GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY IN ITS APPLICATION TO THE SPECIAL CASE OF THE SEX OFFENDER ARE FIRST SET FORTH. THE PARTICULAR PROBLEMS POSED BY THE INSTITUTIONALIZED OFFENDER AS A CONSEQUENCE OF BOTH HIS OFFENSE AND HIS INSTITUTIONAL STATUS ARE THEN DISCUSSED. FINALLY, THE AUTHORS CONSIDER THE PARTICULAR PROBLEMS OF ACHIEVING GROUP THERAPEUTIC GOALS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE TOTAL INSTITUTIONAL SETTING. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
