The April 1993 monthly report of California's Youth and Adult Correctional Agency provides statistical data on the movement and racial-ethnic distribution of both institutional and parole populations.
Abstract
The prison population included 106,032 males and 7,043 females in April 1993. The number of prisoners received totaled 10,182, while the number released totaled 9,071. Of the institutional population, 28.9 percent were white, 33.1 percent were black, and 32 percent were Hispanic. The parole population included 77,645 males and 8,506 females in April 1993. The number of offenders receiving parole totaled 8,351, while the number released (returned to an institution, discharged, or had parole suspended) totaled 8,286. Of the parole population, 30.4 percent were white, 32.4 percent were black, and 32.5 percent were Hispanic. Data are also tabulated on admission or return status by institution.
