The purpose of this article is to discuss an innovative approach to social service programming for battered women and their families on a residential and nonresidential basis.
Abstract
The article presents the development of Hiatus House, Incorporated, located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This agency was established in 1976 and has developed comprehensive programming for families experiencing domestic violence. Discussions in this article include: Problem Identification, a Feasibility Study, Community response/community Perception, Community Resources, Funding, Board of Directors, Philosophy Policies, Program, Program Evaluation and Modification, Staffing, Auxiliary Staff and Student Field Placements, Facility and Public Relations, and Public Education.
