REPORT ON THE PROGRAM, PARTICIPANTS, STAFF, AND ACTIVITIES OF THIS NON-INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES DAILY THERAPEUTIC, EDUCATIONAL AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES TO SENTENCED OFFENDERS.
Abstract
FOLLOWING THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BRITISH CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT OF 1972, THE SECRETARY OF STATE SET UP FOUR EXPERIMENTAL DAY TRAINING CENTERS IN SHEFFIELD, LIVERPOOL, PONTYPRIDD, AND INNER LONDON. THIS REPORT REVIEWS THE FIRST YEAR'S WORKING OF THE INNER LONDON CENTER. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CENTER AND SELECTION CRITERIA ARE FIRST DESCRIBED. PROGRAM ACTIVITIES ARE THEN DESCRIBED, INCLUDING THE THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUES, THE PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES, REMEDIAL CLASSES AND COMMUNITY MEETINGS. BACKGROUND AND CRIMINAL HISTORY DATA ON THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ARE REVIEWED AS WELL. WHILE FIRM DATA ON PARTICIPANT RECIDIVISM WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT, IT IS NOTED THAT GENERAL OBSERVATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS SUPPORT THE CONCLUSION THAT THE PROGRAM HAS HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON PARTICIPANT BEHAVIOR....DMC
