Abstract
These data, presented by State (and the Federal Bureau of Prisons) for the years 1989 and 1990, include the total number and percentage of escapes, where escaped from (work release, furlough, etc.), and number returned; there are comparable statistics for 13 Canadian systems. There is information from 10 States and two Canadian systems concerning deaths and injuries caused by escapes, and a chart of inmate escapes in the United States during the years 1984 to 1990.
