This journal issue focuses on the behavior dynamics of inmates and appropriate policy responses.
Abstract
The authors specifically look at assessing versus labeling inmates, violence, stress, and aggression. They consider clinical processes involved in understanding and treating behavioral problems and examine the role of psychotherapy in treating young offender depression. Journal articles also discuss parenting in prison, intervention with adjudicated adolescents, parental assessment of behavioral change after children's participation in delinquency prevention programs, house arrest and its success and failure rates in residential and nonresidential community- based programs, and high-risk parolees in transition from institutional to community life. The need to formulate appropriate social science and public policies to deal with inmate behavior dynamics is emphasized. References, tables, and figures
