THIS STUDY DESCRIBES INNOVATIVE TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL OF THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. THESE PROGRAMS ARE CONDUCTED IN A SEPARATE SECTION OF A TRAINING CENTER AT EL RENO, OKLAHOMA.
Abstract
THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL ACTION TRAINING ENABLES THE TRAINEE TO ACQUIRE A DEEP INSIGHT INTO HIS OWN PERSONALITY, HIS REACTIONS TO HIS FELLOW TRAINEES, AND HIS ATTITUDES TOWARD INMATES. TRAINEES ALSO LEARN TO VIEW THE ENTIRE PENAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN TERMS OF POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS IN ITS OPERATION. AFTER THIS INTRODUCTORY DESCRIPTION OF A NEW TYPE OF TRAINING FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL, THIS STUDY DEALS WITH SEPARATE TOPICS. THESE INCLUDE TEMPORARY WORK AND STUDY RELEASE PROGRAMS FOR INMATES AND SPECIAL FURLOUGHS COVERED BY THE UNITED STATES PRISONER REHABILITATION ACT OF 1965; COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONS; HALFWAY HOUSES; PLACEMENT OF CONVICTED OFFENDERS IN COMMUNITY-BASED CENTERS AND BYPASSING DETENTION; AND REHABILITATION OF DRUG ADDICTS IN SPECIAL CENTERS (NARCOTICS HOSPITALS, AFTER-CARE PROGRAMS, ETC.). IN ADDITION, SEVERAL OTHER SUBJECTS ARE BRIEFLY COMMENTED ON WITH REGARD TO FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS; MINIMUM-SECURITY CORRECTIONS FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS (AS EXEMPLIFIED IN THE ROBERT F. KENNEDY YOUTH CENTER AT MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA): DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF OFFENDERS IN YOUTH CENTERS; BEHAVIOR-MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES; AND PRERELEASE PROGRAMS. ALL THE ABOVE TOPICS EXEMPLIFY THE DEEP CONCERN OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, ESPECIALLY THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH, IN INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO THE TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS. --IN SPANISH.
