This instructional module was developed to give staff of Canada's Correctional Service a general understanding of the case management process.
Abstract
The module focuses on case management phases, the role of staff in case management, effective security and case management, and case management assessment and planning. Presentation tips and techniques are provided, and required materials and equipment are identified. Each segment of the module contains instructional purposes and information. The module details such case management phases as initial assessment and placement, correctional planning, institutional supervision, preparing cases for decision, and community supervision. The module also covers offender classification in case management and planning in relation to selective intervention, casework control, and environmental structure. Unit management organizational models are illustrated, and principles and phases of case management are outlined for each case management topic. Handouts to provide the participant with more detailed knowledge of the case management process are included.
