Abstract

The article discusses Bass's academic career, the influence of his mentors, and the research he undertook as part of his doctoral dissertation. Bass is one of the most productive American physical anthropologists of modern times. His contributions are reflected through his 193 publications to date; his casework, which has grown dramatically throughout his career, and now includes an average caseload of 45 per year; his public speaking ability; his role in developing the Physical Anthropology section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences; and his teaching accomplishments. 5 tables, 3 figures, and 17 references
