These illustrated guidelines outline the precautions that inmates of correctional facilities should take to prevent the spread of infectious diseases that are often spread by blood and body fluids as well as from contaminated surfaces and from germs floating in the air.
Abstract
The advice emphasizes that handwashing is the single most important means of preventing infection and should always be done after using the toilet, before eating, and after work. Hygiene related to bites and scratches, the importance of handling sharp objects carefully, and the use of gloves and other protective clothing are also explained. Other sections explain precautions and hygiene in prison cells and the kitchen and in situations in which people with an infectious disease may be isolated.
