PAPER ILLUSTRATES HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE CAN BE APPLIED IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS.
Abstract
THIS RESEARCH PAPER WAS DIRECTED TOWARD SEVERAL ENDS. FIRST, STATISTICAL STUDIES WERE COMPLETED ON THREE ISOENZYMES AND PROTEIN SYSTEMS OF FORENSIC IMPORTANCE. THESE STATISTICS PROVIDE THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST THE LUXURY OF CALCULATING THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH A PARTICULAR BLOOD SPECIMEN POSSESSING ANY COMBINATION OF TYPES FOR THESE SYSTEMS OCCURS IN THE POPULATION. SECOND, THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS FOR THE IDENTIFICATION OF CERTAIN TYPES OF ANTIGENS AND ISOENZYMES IN BLOODSTAINS AND SEMINAL STAINS CAN LEND ASSISTANCE ON THE PREDICTION OF THE RACIAL ORIGIN OF THE EVIDENCE. THIRD, A TECHNIQUE WAS DEVELOPED THAT WILL PERMIT THE DETERMINATION OF THE SEXUAL ORIGIN OF BLOODSTAIN EVIDENCE WITH AN APPROXIMATE CERTAINTY OF 90-99 PERCENT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...BS
