This report examines the increasing problem of retail theft in Sweden and discusses ways to prevent it, based on information provided by 300 boutiques and department stores regarding their experiences with theft and prevention measures.
Abstract
Information was also gathered through site visits to 12 shops. The analysis notes that retail theft increased 600 percent from 1965 to 1986. The discussion covers a variety of prevention strategies, including the physical layout of the store, planning for theft prevention, employee training, campaigns to prevent theft, and theft prevention devices and equipment such as locks, alarm systems, and access controls Burglary prevention is also discussed in a section that considers windows, doors, and perimeter alarm systems.
