The Canada Correctional Service developed this module to provide correctional staff with an awareness and understanding of documents used to record incidents and observations. The module stresses the need for information sharing and the importance of accurate documentation procedures to support decisionmaking processes.
Abstract
Several objectives are outlined for participants, who are instructed in the purposes of the notebook, logbook, activity records, officer's observation report, casework record, protection information report, performance notice, and inmate offense report and notification of charge. At the end of the module, participants are able to identify the essential criteria for writing a good report and to understand the importance of offender documentation in correctional operations and the function of documentation in preventive security and case management.
