THIS FOUR-COMPONENT SYSTEM INCLUDES A WRIST-TRANSMITTER WHICH SENDS OUT A SELF-IDENTIFYING CODED UHF RADIO SIGNAL WHEN TRIGGERED BY A USER UNDER THREAT OF PERSONAL VIOLENCE.
Abstract
THE OTHER SYSTEM COMPONENTS INCLUDE INTERNAL RECEIVER RELAYS, EXTERNAL RECEIVER RELAYS, AND A CENTRAL STATION. THE KEY IMPROVEMENTS DISCUSSED RELATE TO MINIATURIZATION OF THE ACTUATOR AND THE EXTENSION OF ITS RANGE FROM 50 TO 500 FEET, DESIGN OF RECEIVER RELAYS FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR USE, SUPERVISION OF RECEIVER-RELAYS TO PROTECT AGAINST TAMPER AND MALFUNCTION, INCREASED CAPABILITY AT THE CENTRAL STATION, AND OVERALL DESIGN IMPROVEMENT AND OPTIMIZATION. THIS REPORT EXPLORES THE POTENTIAL USAGE OF THE SYSTEM, THE ALTERNATIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AVAILABLE TO THE VICTIM OF PERSONAL CRIME, AND THE USER-RELATED AND CAPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SYSTEM ALSO PRESENTED ARE ANALYSES OF THE THREE COMMUNICATION LINKS IN THE SYSTEM (SHORT RANGE UHF RADIO, INTERNAL POWER-LINE, AND DEDICATED VOICE-GRADE PHONE LINE) AND THE ANALYSES IN SEVERAL FUNCTIONAL AREAS WHICH IMPACT ON SYSTEM HARDWARD REQUIREMENTS. THESE ANALYSES ARE THEN USED TO DEVELOP A SET OF PRELIMINARY LINK AND HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS. (FOR THE FINAL REPORT ON THE CITIZENS ALARM SYSTEM, SEE NCJ-35095).
