Abstract
EXPECTED CHANGES IN THE US POPULATION 1970-1985 ARE DISCUSSED AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS ARE ASSESSED. OTHER FACTORS, SUCH AS HIGH MINORITY UNEMPLOYMENT RATES AND INCREASING CRIME RATES, WHICH ALSO AFFECT THE COMPOSITION OF PRISON POPULATIONS ARE ALSO IDENTIFIED.
