STATISTICS ON COMPLIANCE BY ILLINOIS COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL JAILS AND JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES WITH MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND INMATE TREATMENT ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE BUREAU OF DETENTION STANDARDS AND SERVICES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING THE STANDARDS, INSPECTING THE JAILS AND DETENTION FACILITIES, AND PROVIDING CONSULTATION SERVICES TO HELP THE FACILITIES COMPLY WITH STANDARDS. THE FISAL 1977 STATISTICS REFLECT COMPLIANCE AND NONCOMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS OF ADMINISTRATION, OPERATIONS, AND BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT FOR EACH OF THE STATE'S COUNTY JAILS, MUNICIPAL JAILS AND LOCKUPS, AND JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES. THE STATISTICS ALSO COVER COMPLIANCE WITH THE BUREAU'S RECOMMENDATIONS. FOR THE COUNTY FACILITIES, STATISTICS ARE ALSO PRESENTED ON THE EXISTENCE OF INMATE PROGRAMS (WORK RELEASE, EDUCATION, COUNSELING, ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE, LIBRARY, RECREATION, AND RELIGION). DATA ON INMATE POPULATIONS ARE ALSO PROVIDED. A NARRATIVE SECTION SUMMARIZES THE STATISTICAL INFORMATION AND DESCRIBES BRIEFLY THE BUREAU'S INSPECTION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR.
