This book examines the impact of drugs on society and America's response to the problem of drug abuse.
Abstract
The volume is organized around four key questions that are answered with diverse opinions in which authors disagree as well as alternative opinions in which authors may agree on a broader issue but disagree on the possible solutions. The four major issues are: (1) There is/is not a drug abuse crisis: debate includes an examination of use of illegal drugs among youth; (2) Drug testing should/should not be allowed: debate focuses on methods to achieve drug-free workplaces; (3) Antidrug programs are/are not effective: debate includes examination of DARE and other antidrug programs; and (4) Illegal drugs should/should not be legalized: debate includes examination of whether drug legalization would help or harm drug users and society at large. The book includes a list of organizations to contact for further information on the issues debated. Figures, tables, bibliography, index
