DESCRIPTION OF A SYSTEM FOR LOCATING VEHICLES FOLLOWING FIXED ROUTES USING BATTERY POWERED IDENTITY TRANSPONDERS AS ROUTE MARKERS.
Abstract
IDENTITY TRANSPONDERS ARE DEVICES WHICH, WHEN INTERROGATED, REPLY WITH A CODED SIGNAL INDICATING THE IDENTIFYING NUMBER OF THE PARTICULAR TRANSPONDER BEING INTERROGATED. IF THE INTERROGATOR IS MOUNTED ON A VEHICLE, AND THE TRANSPONDERS ARE PLACED AT INTERVALS ALONG THE ROUTE, THEN THE SYSTEM CAN IDENTIFY EACH TRANSPONDER AS THE VEHICLE PASSES AND HENCE ESTABLISH THE POSITION OF THE VEHICLE. THE OPERATION OF THIS SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED, AND ITS APPLICATION TO ROAD TRANSPORT, ESPECIALLY BUSES, IS SHOWN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...KAP
