This pocket manual is a comprehensive-handy reference tool for law enforcement in the understanding and investigating of identity theft crimes.
Abstract
This pocket guide teaches how to recognize and uncover well-hidden identity theft situations, understand and confront MOs of identity thieves, work together with identity theft victims to arrest perpetrators and prevent further victimization, know which agencies to contact for support, and use skillful investigation and documentation techniques to increase the odds of securing convictions. This pocket guide was developed as part of a training series and as a guide to understanding, investigating, and preventing identity theft. Law enforcement officers can refer to this guide prior to a crime of identity theft or during an investigation of such a crime to insure the proper steps of identity theft investigation. While identity theft is not a new crime, its frequency is increasing at an alarming rate. It is also a crime that is seldom identified and seldom prosecuted.
