These 49 case vignettes and accompanying questions are intended to give readers the opportunity to identify with the various roles involved in the correctional process, including the roles of inmates, correctional personnel, prison administrators, judges and other court personnel, counselors, and others.
Abstract
The scenarios and questions are based on the views that effective relationships are the major contributors to corrections effectiveness and that understanding and gaining insight into the roles of all persons involved in corrections can help individuals relate more effectively both to the offender and to professional peers. Each case is fictitious and presents a situation requiring a discretionary decision by a judge, probation officer, correctional guard, minister, correctional volunteer, classroom teacher, prison administrator, inmate, or other person involved with the correctional system or with offenders in the community. The decisions required in each case, some alternative courses of action, and basic issues presented by the situation are summarized.
