WATCHDOGS CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS ALARM DOGS, THREAT DOGS, OR MANSTOPPERS - NOT ALL BREEDS CAN PERFORM ALL FUNCTIONS - THIS BOOK IDENTIFIES THE BEST BREED FOR THE DESIRED FUNCTION AND GIVES CLEAR TRAINING INSTRUCTIONS.
Abstract
DOBERMANS, SHEPHERDS, DANES, AND OTHER BREEDS ARE DESCRIBED. IDEAL CHARACTERISTICS AND MEASUREMENTS FOR DOG SELECTION ARE PRESENTED. DECIDING UPON THE DESIRED FUNCTION IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF WATCHDOG SELECTION. ALARM DOGS AND THREAT DOGS MUST BE BACKED UP BY HUMAN RESPONSE, MANSTOPPERS ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO CATEGORIES, PERSONAL PROTECTION DOGS AND REAL ESTATE GUARD DOGS. BOTH ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. A CHAPTER IS DEVOTED TO THE LEGAL LIABILITY OF DOG OWNERS. PRETRAINING AND BASIC OBEDIENCE TRAINING INSTRUCTION PRECEDES CHAPTERS ON WATCHDOG, MANSTOPPER, AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING. INFORMATION IS ALSO PROVIDED ON THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF DOG OWNERS AND ON COMMON DISEASES AND HOW TO RECOGNIZE THEM.
