Abstract
In deciding whether to pursue a pro se domestic abuse case, victims should consider the legal requirements for a domestic abuse protective order, how the court can protect them under State law, other ways to obtain protection from an abuser, and legal differences in these alternatives. The booklet explains how victims of domestic abuse can get a protective order, how they can change their minds, and what steps to follow at the hearing for a permanent order, including the need to present for evidence testify. The booklet also contains sample forms, tips on courtroom behavior, a financial information worksheet, and resource lists.
