THIS GUIDE PRESENTS PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM OF CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG PEOPLE; EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON PREVENTING CRIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS AND PROMOTING TRUST BETWEEN PARENT AND CHILD.
Abstract
AREAS OF CONSIDERATION INCLUDE PREVENTING SEXUAL OFFENSES, DETERRING STREET CRIME, VIOLENCE AND DISCIPLINE IN SCHOOLS, GANGS AND OTHER GROUPS, CONFRONTATION AND SELF-DEFENSE, CHILD VICTIMIZATION, DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, CRIMES COMMITTED BY YOUTHS, AND UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PARENT AND CHILD. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT JUDICIOUS COMMUNITY ACTION GREATLY REDUCES THE INCIDENCE OF CRIME; COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS SUCH AS SILENT ESCORT AND HELPING HAND ARE RECOMMENDED AS PREVENTIVE MEASURES AGAINST CRIMES PERPETRATED ON YOUNG PEOPLE. THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENTS AND CHILDREN IS ESSENTIAL SO THAT YOUNG PERSONS WILL NOT BE AFRAID TO DISCUSS PROBLEMS OR SUSPICIOUS SITUATIONS.
