DATA ON POPULATION, POPULATION MIGRATION, AND LABOR FORCE MIGRATION ARE USED TO ESTIMATE THE MAJORITY AND MINORITY COMPONENTS OF THE HOUSTON, TEX., AREA LABOR FORCE.
Abstract
THE REPORT IS PART OF A NINE-VOLUME STUDY OF THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT'S SELECTION, TRAINING, AND PROMOTION PROCEDURES. LABOR FORCE ESTIMATES AND PROJECTIONS FOR MALES AND FEMALES AGED 18 TO 35 WERE BUILT ON BASE DATA FROM THE 1970 CENSUS FOR GEOGRAPHIC AREAS OF INTEREST TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THEIR RECRUITING ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING THE 500-MILE RECRUITING AREA SURROUNDING HOUSTON. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ESTIMATES AND PROJECTIONS IS EXPLAINED AND ILLUSTRATED IN A FLOW CHART. TABLES SHOW THE PERCENTAGE OF MINORITIES (BLACK, HISPANIC, FEMALE) IN THE FULL-TIME LABOR FORCE FOR THE RECRUITING AREA AND FOR THE HOUSTON STANDARD METROPOLITAN STATISTICAL AREA. OTHER TABLES PRESENT POPULATION AND LABOR FORCE BREAKDOWNS FOR OTHER GEOGRAPHIC AREAS OF INTEREST TO THE HOUSTON DEPARTMENT AND ESTIMATES FOR 1975. SOURCES OF DATA USED IN THE CALCULATIONS ARE IDENTIFIED. SEE NCJ-51910-51913, 51917,51941,51943, AND 51945 FOR OTHER VOLUMES OF THE STUDY REPORT. (LKM)
